Biography

Brett is an associate attorney with the Miami office of the Derek Smith Law Group. He has a comprehensive knowledge of employment discrimination and civil rights litigation, and particular expertise in retaliation.

Brett advocates for his clients with his competitive drive, storytelling ability, and experience litigating employment discrimination cases. Brett thrives by developing close relationships with his clients, prioritizing communication, teamwork, and candor from the intake through mediation and jury verdicts.

Brett fights for his clients against employers of all sizes, including small businesses, large corporations, and government entities. Brett takes particular pride in punishing employers who consciously disregard the plight of employees facing unrelenting discrimination. He believes that all individuals have the inviolable civil right to pursue equal employment opportunities, to preserve their personal dignity, and to be valued by their employers.

Brett began working for the Derek Smith Law Group as a law clerk before becoming an associate attorney. Brett became a lawyer after a former life in the literary world, where he published short stories in literary magazines and pursued an MFA in Creative Writing. Brett is a Miami native, a weekend golfer, and a devoted fan of the Dave Matthews Band.
