Biography

Daniel is an employment discrimination attorney with the New York City office of the Derek Smith Law Group. Having graduated from Stanford with his Juris Doctorate, Daniel began his career as a law clerk for the Honorable Walter L. Carpeneti in the Supreme Court of Alaska. Looking to move a little South into a bit of a warmer climate, Daniel moved to New York where he worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Denis R. Hurley in the Eastern District of New York.

Having clerked for two amazing judges, it was time for Daniel to move onto the role as an associate. He worked as an associate for Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton, and Garrison, where he handled many commercial litigation matters, as well as wage and hour cases, defamation, retaliation, and discrimination cases.

Daniel next spent four and a half years at the United States Attorney’s Office in New Jersey, where he represented numerous federal agencies in employment and tort disputes, prevailing in several trials. Daniel also helped investigate and litigate civil fraud claims.

Daniel has even had the opportunity to see how the other side of the case works while working as an employment defense attorney at Kauff, McGuire, & Margolis. There he represented employers in federal and state court litigation, defending his clients against claims of employment discrimination and sexual harassment. This valuable knowledge helps him work with his clients at the Derek Smith Law Group to anticipate the moves of the defendant involved in his clients’ cases.

Daniel believes in hard work and justice, making sure to represent his clients with the care and foresight he knows their delicate and personal matters require. His goal is to ensure his clients are prepared every step of the way so few or no surprises appear when they sit down at the negotiation table.
