Kaplan Ocbe is an attorney in the Miami office of Derek Smith Law Group, where he focuses his practice on employment law. He represents clients in matters involving employment discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, hostile work environment, wrongful termination, and unpaid wages and overtime. Kaplan is committed to protecting the rights of employees and ensuring that workers are treated fairly and lawfully in the workplace.
Before joining Derek Smith Law Group, Kaplan represented debtors in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, where he developed a strong foundation in complex litigation and high-stakes negotiation. His experience guiding clients through some of the most challenging financial circumstances they will ever face informs his strategic, detail-oriented, and client-centered approach to employment matters today.
Kaplan earned his Juris Doctor from Florida International University College of Law. During law school, he served as a research assistant to a professor of international law, conducting research on the use of force under international law. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Miami. He is licensed to practice law in the State of Florida.
Outside of the office, Kaplan enjoys playing music and is a multi-instrumentalist who plays the guitar, banjo, and oud.
