Biography:
Attorney Griffin is an Associate with the Derek Smith Law Group where he focuses his practice
on Civil Rights, Employment Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, Hostile Work Environment,
Retaliation, Public Accommodation Discrimination, and Employment Contracts.
Employment law attorney J. Patrick Griffin obtained his J.D. from the Thomas R. Kline School
of Law at Drexel University and received his Bachelor's Degree from the Pennsylvania State
University-Berks where he majored in Business. At Penn State, Patrick was a member of the golf
team and captain of the baseball team where he led the team to the first NCAA postseason berth
in school history. Patrick returned to coach at Penn State while also simultaneously serving as a
General Manager overseeing multiple sports training facilities and scouting for the Washington
Nationals.
Drawn to a career in law because of his extremely competitive nature, Patrick was awarded the
Kline School of Law’s most prestigious scholarship, the Rising Advocate Scholarship. In law
school, Patrick received multiple awards for Best Oral Arguments, as well as awards for best
overall performance in Evidence, International Law, and Energy Law. Patrick also received
Service Honors in recognition of his extensive Pro Bono work for the senior citizens of
Pennsylvania at the SeniorLAW Center in Philadelphia.
Prior to joining the Derek Smith Law Group, Patrick gained valuable legal experience helping
people start new business ventures as a Due Diligence Fellow with the Keiretsu Forum, working
with injured SEPTA employees, and working with NFL players in a sports agency based here in
Philadelphia. Patrick also served as a Judicial Fellow to the Honorable Judge Shelley Robins-

New in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas where he assisted the Court with major jury
trials and garnered invaluable knowledge of the Philadelphia court system.
In his spare time, Patrick enjoys staying active, following Philadelphia sports, and woodworking.
He also serves on the board for Team Foster, a nonprofit dedicated to funding service dogs for
veterans. Patrick lives in Philadelphia with his fiance Briana and their two dogs.
